Lower grades K, 1, & 2 focus mainly on singing properly, and developing the ability to sing melodies on pitch. We also focus on playing percussion instruments such as drums and xylophones in order to improve coordination and keep the beat. Movement and dance is also a part of every lesson.
Upper grades 3, 4, & 5 continue to develop their singing by singing independently, in 2 or more parts, to create harmony. They also learn to play in 2 and 3 parts independently on percussion instruments. In addition, they learn to read music notation by playing a woodwind instrument called a recorder. All upper grade students are required to purchase a recorder in order to practice at home.
